Olympic Sports Facility Will Support 12 High-Powered Teams
Twelve of TCU’s 20 Division I sports will benefit from a planned athletics complex.
The $16-18 million facility will provide offices and locker rooms for the six men’s and women’s track and field teams, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer and the rifle and equestrian teams, as well as coaches’ offices for baseball. A new golf facility will be part of the complex, as will be an outdoor, short-game practice range with greens and sandtraps. The complex will also feature sports medicine and strength/conditioning facilities tailored specifically for TCU’s dozen Olympic sports, and a heritage center will tell the teams’ stories.

Those stories are compelling ones. “These are extremely successful teams, both athletically and academically,” says Athletics Director Danny Morrison. “They have a collective GPA above 3.0 and have achieved national athletic prominence. These high performing teams — which include about half of TCU’s student-athletes — need and deserve a new home.”
Early architectural designs show a complex that takes its styling cues from the John Justin Athletic Center. The first floor of the Olympic sports facility will house locker rooms and common space for the teams, while the second floor will feature coaches’ offices.
With this plan, the Horned Frogs are bucking a national trend of isolating Olympic sports teams and moving them off campus. “We think we can really benefit from the synergy this plan offers,” Dr. Morrison adds.
